What do you offer? I offer one-to-one and small group tuition in Colchester CO2. All my classes are run in a friendly atmosphere, where everyone can feel relaxed and make the most of their learning experience.
How does private tuition work? I specialise in one-to-one, small group and online tuition. Before starting your lessons, I will speak with you about your experience and motivation for learning French so that I can create a learning programme best suited to you. There are three ways to get in touch and arrange tuition: (1) Ring me on 07771553195 for French tuition. (2) Fill in our online enquiry form for private tuition. (3) Email your enquiry to [email protected]
When can I start? This depends on my availability and the flexibility of your own diary. I aim to have you learning the language within 7 days.
Do you charge a registration fee? No, I do not run an agency, I run a local company servicing the needs of language learners in and around Colchester.
When am I able to have lessons? I can teach you at a time of your choosing, provided that I am not already booked at that time. Call me for availability.
Can I learn with friends or colleagues? Yes, learning with friends or colleagues is a great way to learn as you’ll be able to interact in your group with role-plays and also practise with each other after your lesson.
I’m unable to make a lesson one week, will I have to pay for it? No, you will not be charged for lessons you do not use, however, you will be charged if you cancel on the day. Courses are flexible to take into account holidays and illness etc. and lessons can be rescheduled for another convenient date and time.
How do I know what level I am? Your level will be assessed by me as part of your first lesson. Together we will be able to set your goals and decide upon a suitable learning plan.
How many lessons do I need? This depends on why you want to learn and what your aims are. I can discuss this with you. Ideally, students should try and take two lessons per week as this helps to reinforce learning, although, we understand that some people do not have the time. The important thing is to complete any homework you’ve been given and practise often. As a rough estimate, for beginners who are looking to attain a basic level where they can get by in a foreign country will usually need around 18 hours of tuition.
How long are the lessons? Most students find that a lesson of 1.5 hours is about right, although some prefer a longer 2 hour lesson. Some younger students or those who do not have much time opt for 1 hour sessions. For intensive learners we can arrange longer sessions.
How much does tuition cost? All of my lesson costs are set out on my pricing page. I do not charge a registration fee. I do not insist on block booking. Prices do vary depending on the length of the lesson and how many students the lessons are for but essentially you are paying for my time without any hidden extra costs.
How do I pay? Payment for all lessons is made in advance. Payment can be made by cash or bank transfer. If you want to pay as you go, that's fine. If you would rather block book, that's fine too.
My company is going to pay for my lessons, are you able to invoice them? Yes, I can arrange for your company to be invoiced directly for an agreed block of lessons as long as the tuition has been approved.
I never liked learning at school, will private tuition be different? Private tuition is nothing like school! All lessons whether for pleasure or business will take place in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I will do my best to put you at ease and make your learning experience enjoyable and fun. Many GCSE and A-level students benefit greatly from private tuition as it takes them out of the classroom environment which they find intimidating.
What are the benefits of private tuition? Private tuition is the fastest and most effective way to learn a language. Private tuition can be tailored to your exact needs whether you are learning for pleasure, business or an academic qualification. There's no being pushed into the shadows by the teacher’s pet and my attention is always yours. You can learn on the days and at the time that you choose and the lesson duration can be specific to your needs.
Do you provide materials such as books? I can provide you with the handouts and course material required for your lesson. Some students prefer to buy their own textbooks and I can advise you on which texts will help you to achieve your goals.
Do I have to take an exam? No, I don't offer exams and you won't find yourself being assessed like you were at school. The ultimate test is how quickly I get you to reach your goal: speaking the language. That said, I have many years of experience of supporting people in working towards their GCSE, A level, diploma and degree.
Do you have any group language lessons? I do not run groups or courses in the traditional 'night school' manner. Many clients choose to learn with friends, family or colleagues.
